Atrial fibrillation surgery is done to rectify the irregular heartbeats of the heart. The heart is divided into 4 parts. One of the parts is the atrium which is responsible for signalling the heart to beat. But sometimes the signal can be given by another part of the heart. This causes the heart to not have a regular heartbeat causing irregularities. A catheter is surgically added to the heart to try to scar the cells that are giving abnormal signals to the heart causing it to have an irregular heartbeat. The scarring is done by applying heat or freezing the cells that are giving the abnormal signal in the heart.
