Completion thyroidectomy can most accurately be described as reexploration of the neck to remove the contralateral thyroid lobe. This procedure has commonly been performed when the histopathologic condition of the ipsilateral thyroid lobe reveals papillary or follicular carcinoma of the thyroid.
