In April 1995, this doctor was the first in India to implant an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD).

Awarded the PADMA BHUSHAN, the third-highest civilian honor, by the President of India for the outstanding contribution to the field of medicine in 2005.
The doctor was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award 2006' for outstanding contribution in the field of Clinical & Preventive Cardiology in the World.
