Different types of Hair Transplant methods

• Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) - The surgeon will remove 6 to 10 inches of tissue from the back or side of the scalp which is known as the donor area. This area is normally pretty resistant to hair loss. This strip will be divided into small grafts, each containing 2 to 4 hair follicles. These grafts will be transplanted to areas where hair loss has happened. This method was the most used. But it leaves scars and the recovery time is usually longer. The cost of this type of transplantation is lower than FUE.

• Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) - The surgeon extracts individual hair follicles from the donor area directly without taking out any strip from the head. These follicles are preserved. Grafts are made from these for transplantation. The surgeon will then make small incisions in the area where these grafts are to be added.  The grafts are then inserted one by one. This is a minimally invasive procedure with a short recovery time.
